The Thursday Special’s outing to Cruit Island benefitted some of our contestants, where Matt Gallagher and Barry Kennedy put lessons learned to good use and returned very good scores of 68 and 69, to claim first and second places. Third place was won by the steady player, John Meade who returned a very good score of 71, just ahead of Joyce Mc Mullin on a BOT. Gross prize was won by 1 handicapper, Conal Cooke.Results.1. Next Sunday’s Competition is sponsored by Dom’s Pier 1.There will be a Club Competition on the Bank Holiday Monday, 4th May.Wednesday Opens.Open Competition on Wednesdays for the months of May and June start on Wednesday the 6th of May.Team News.Manus Brennan had his Donegal League team away in Greencastle on Sunday in the first round of that competition, and got a good result where they secured two matches.Thursday Specials:We had an excellent turn out (61 players) for our first 15 Hole competition of the year. The winner for a second time in 2015 with an exceptional score of 38pts was Liam Farren; Liam Mundy had to settle for 2nd place, his score of 37pts would have been good enough to win most weeks. Martin Travers runner up in the Player of the year last year signalled his intent to go one better this time with an impressive score of 35pts and last week’s winner John “Cookie” Meehan was 4th with 32pts.The prize for the 1st9 went to our former Treasurer Donie McIntyre with 22pts and John McCafferty was the best of the past players with 35pts.Entry sheet for the Phoenix Cup is on the notice board in the locker room, draw will be made on the 7th May.We had our first away outing of the year to Cruit Island Golf Club on Saturday 25th, 28 players travelled and a very enjoyable day was had by all and some very impressive scores were returned.The winner on the day was Vice Captain Gerry Forde who returned an excellent score of 40pts doing just enough to beat Gerard Gallagher who also retuned 40pts on a break of tie. Damien Hanna was 3rd with 39pts.John Joe Travers claimed the prize for the front nine with 20pts and Chairman Jimmy Melly won the back nine with 22pts. John “Cookie” Meehan won the prize for nearest the pin on 6th\15th and Aidy Gallagher had the longest drive on the 2nd\11th.Thanks to our all at Cruit Island Golf Club who provided a warm welcome and excellent service for the duration of our visit.Presentation evening and Mixed Scramble in aid of Cancer Care West.Prizes for the sponsored competitions played in March and April were presented on Friday the 24th April with a mixed scramble (15 holes) during the day in Aid of Cancer Care West.
