Southampton complete £10m deal for Celtic goalkeeper Forster

first_imgSouthampton have completed the signing of England international goalkeeper Fraser Forster.The 26-year-old has penned a four-year deal with the club and joins for an undisclosed fee, understood to be £10million, from Scottish champions Celtic.Forster, an unused member of the England squad at the World Cup in Brazil, joins Ryan Bertrand, Dusan Tadic, Saphir Taider and Graziano Pelle in moving to St Mary’s this summer.“Fraser is a very talented player and we are delighted to be able to bring him to Southampton,” Saints boss Ronald Koeman told the club’s official website.“This is another important part of our rebuilding process ahead of the start of the season. The fact that he has worked with [goalkeeping coach] Dave Watson before means we already know all about his strengths and weaknesses, and I am confident that we will be able to help him improve even further.“Fraser is the perfect fit to help complement the players we already have, and he will add a lot of quality to the squad.  He is an exciting English player with a very good reputation within the game and, at 26, he will enjoy the best years of his career at Southampton.”Forster’s arrival is welcome good news for Saints fans, who have seen a host of stars depart this summer, while also losing manager Mauricio Pochettino to Premier League rivals Tottenham.Rickie Lambert, Adam Lallana and Dejan Lovren have moved to Liverpool, left-back Luke Shaw has joined Manchester United and right-back Calum Chambers was sold to Arsenal.Doubts also remain over the future of midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin, who is wanted by former boss Pochettino at Tottenham.Southampton chairman Ralph Krueger has insisted the 24-year-old is not for sale, but he missed Saturday’s friendly with Bayer Leverkusen after telling Koeman he was “not mentally or physically ready” to play.
