FSJ Legion remembers Battle of Vimy Ridge during tomorrow’s ceremony

first_img“Many historians and writers consider the Canadian victory at Vimy a defining moment for Canada, when the country emerged from under the shadow of Britain and felt capable of greatness,” a distributed press release by cadet member Dan Davies reads. “Canadian troops also earned a reputation as formidable, effective troops because of the stunning success.”In April of 1917, The Canadian Corps was ordered to seize Vimy Ridge. Situated in northern France, the heavily-fortified seven-kilometre ridge held a commanding view over the allied lines.More than 10,000 Canadians were killed or wounded as a result of the battle.- Advertisement -“Please join the Legion, cadets and officers and other members of our community as we remember those [who] sacrificed  so much,” Davies concludes.  There will be wine and cheese to follow in the Legion.”The ceremony takes place Thursday April 9, 2015  at the Fort St. John Legion’s Cenotaph, located on 10103 105 Avenue –  commencing at 6:00 p.m.last_img
