first_imgHi my name is Smanga iam the director for a company named Mphakathi Recyclers. The company is a start up which aims at not only employing the youth but also to give people a means of generating an income through recyclables. The following Document was compiled by me can you please reply to it with feedback on how I can get it running because I have faced many difficulties when I try getting it off the ground. MPHAKATHI RECYCLERS (Pty)Ltd ‘It’s only trash if you throw it away’ Registration number: 2015/165488/07 Postal Address : 642a Ntombela Street White City Jabavu Soweto, Gauteng 1868 Contact Person : Mr Smanga Mthembu Email : Smanga [email protected] Cell phone : 063 394 8170 Director : Mr Smanga Mthembu Signature : THE BUSINESS 1.1 BUSINESS DESCRIPTION UMPHAKATHI RECYCLERS (Pty) Ltd is a recyclable collecting business based in Schools around Soweto. The business mainly collects (but is not limited to) Plastic bottles, Glass bottles, Paper and cans recyclables for a profit by selling it Buy-Back-Centres or ‘Depots’. To conduct business UMPHAKATHI RECYCLERS (Pty) Ltd must be in contract or agreement with local schools for ‘product and service’ relationship that aims at uplifting the community and create means for income and also offer relief to poor or struggling families. The main product or service offered by the entity is a Burial Scheme. If the local school is contracted with UMPHAKATHI RECYCLERS (Pty) Ltd and the children at the school bring any of the above mentioned recyclables to school with them on a daily basis (weekdays) then the entity is obligated to assist with the burial of a parent or guardian at no fee at all. The entity will immediately provide the following: • Tables • Chairs • A Tent • Gas Stoves • Pots and Plates • Sound system (If required) This will half the cost of the funeral for the remaining family members, allowing the parent or guardian a dignified funeral which is very important in the African tradition when it comes to bereavement. All this because their child took what is considered ‘trash’ to school. 1.2 GOALS FOR THE BUSINESS In order for UMPHAKATHI RECYCLERS (Pty) Ltd to be sustainable the following goals must be met: • Six months Be in contract with at least one school in Soweto with about +/-1500 pupils • Twelve months Be in contract with at least 4 schools in Soweto, each with +/-1500 multiply by four equals +6000 pupils. If each of these pupils comes with at least two 2L plastic bottles or two old magazines/books or five times 330/440ml cans or and two 375ml glass bottles for the initiative. • Three years Be in contract with at least 20+ schools in Soweto, each with +1500 pupils multiply by twenty (or more) equals +30000 pupils. . If each of these pupils comes with at least two 2L plastic bottles or two old magazines/books or five times 330/440ml cans or and two 375ml glass bottles for the initiative. Please note that the above is only estimates as the success of the project could accelerate at a rate much faster than the predicted ones. 1.3 THE MARKET Currently the market for recyclables is dominated by plastic recyclables. MPHAKATHI RECYCLERS (Pty) Ltd will also collect these plastic bottles, but is not limited as such the less dominated markets in recycling such as cans, paper and glass bottles will be targeted. The market can be better explained through the SWOT ANALYSIS. • STRENGHTS 1. We will collect materials which have not been not been collected on a large scale 2. We will employ unemployed youth in Soweto (community upliftment) and create opportunities for self-employment 3. The initiative will reduce pollution bringing down our carbon-footprint 4. The financial burden of burying a loved one will be greatly reduced if the child is in a school contracted with MPHAKATHI RECYCLERS. 5. Where the family cannot afford a donation will be offered if all the stake-holders agree on it 6. The only condition is that all monies from recycled products is deposited to the entities bank account 7. It’s a community effort and community empowerment opportunities will follow naturally by giving a lifeline to the poor or even child headed households. 8. Children will learn the importance of recycling and its benefits for our environments (sustainability) 9. The project is a niche’ • WEAKNESS 1. The business is a start-up: Funding, Marketing, Advertising, Vehicles etc. these are all essential for the success of the entity. 2. Other Competitors are already recycling on a large scale (Pik’it’Up) • OPPORTUNITY The opportunity for growth and sustainability is apparent because when other schools and parents get word of what MPHAKATHI RECYCLERS (Pty) Ltd is offering to them as a service, they will want to join as they know how important it is to bury a loved one with dignity in African community. The more schools join the more revenue MPHAKATHI RECYCLERS can generate through these recyclables, thus extending its reach and growing the enterprise. In a matter of years we would have surpassed our competitors with the help of the community and schools. The thought of relief for parents knowing that when they pass away his/her children in primary schools will be able to bury them with ease and dignity all the because they assisted them by giving them recyclables to take to school. • THREATHS Legislation on recycling regulates on how much waste can be recycled at a particular site due to the health hazards associated with the accumulation of waste. Since MPHAKATHI RECYCLERS will be operating from schools material to be must always be kept at an absolute minimum. 1. Start-Up Costs 1.1 Material Needed • Bulk Bags> Not yet available • Containers> Not yet available • Banners> Not yet available • Tents> Available • Chairs> Available • Gas Stoves> Available • Pots> Available • Décor> Available • Protective Gear> Not yet available • Vehicles> To be hired MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING MPHAKATHI RECYCLERS (Pty) Ltd is a recycling collecting business that aims to recycle cans, glass bottles, paper and plastic bottles for a profit by selling the mentioned recyclables to Buy-Back-Centres for revenue. The above mentioned recyclables have to be provided by the pupils in the school for our service (Burial Scheme) in case death occurs to a parent or guardian. This Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) is an agreement between MPHAKATHI RECYCLERS (Pty) Ltd reg no. 2015/165488/07 and Primary school for the above mentioned service in exchange for recyclables mentioned above. FaceTime Sex Chat Could Lead the Way for Other Services

Never mind the company’s Facetime introduction service, which lets you call up and Apple representative, try the app out and find out about all of its features – the video sex chat services are already on the way. While Apple may be able to control the App Store and maintain its “moral responsibility”, it looks like porn has found another avenue onto the iPhone and may, yet again, lead the way for other services.According to the article in the Silicon Valley Insider, there’s already an ad on Craigslist for “iPhone 4 FaceTime Video Sex Line Chat” that offers a salary and a free iPhone 4 to potential employees.Starting an online interactive pornography firm where woman will use the iphone 4 to video chat with potential customers on a pay as you go basis.Hours are flexible, pay will increase as the business builds. Woman will receive a free iphone 4 to use as personal time when not working. Woman will talk to potential clients and chat with them and perform various acts as desired by clients. All information will be confidential.Payment will be based on percentage of sales volume and performance. Potential launch date of the company is 9/1/2010 or based on feedback received.Woman will receive, as before mentioned, a free cell phone and a very competitive salary. Please send information and pictures – we would like to launch sooner than 9/1/2010.It’s often the case that porn leads the way in technology and we can only wonder what other innovative services using mobile video chat will follow. The utilitarian opportunities are endless, from remote diagnosis of automotive issues to assistance with assembling that pesky Ikea desk. Perhaps video chat will offer a more personalized customer service for special cases by taking advantage of the extra “bandwidth” of being able to see someone when we speak to them. Having done DSL tech support for a while, I could tell you that being able to see what someone on the other end of the line was trying to describe could have turned an hour long ordeal into a five minute chat. And when it comes to sending someone out into the field, why waste the gas when you can look from afar?Whatever other innovative uses we see next of , it sure the iPhone’s two-way, face-to-face video chat, it doesn’t seem like this particular use of FaceTime will see a lot of, well, “face” time.center_img 5 Outdoor Activities for Beating Office Burnout 4 Keys to a Kid-Safe App 9 Books That Make Perfect Gifts for Industry Ex…last_img read more

Toward A Digital Code Of Ethics For Journalists & Researchers

first_imgThe Dos and Don’ts of Brand Awareness Videos “Stealing” Tweets And Facebook PostsThe academics and researchers focused on the implications of using data from unknowing YouTube, Facebook, Tumblr and Twitter research subjects. As a tech journalist covering digital culture, I’ve often used such social media messages for articles without the author’s permission. I’ve rarely bothered to reach out to the authors to let them know they’ve been quoted, either. On more than one of my articles, I’ve received complaints from people who were quoted without their permission, including pseudonym-using redditors. I’ve even been blocked by a journalist I admire for (presumably) using her tweets to make her look bad.In my defense, I am not alone in using other people’s social media messages without their permission. Everyone does this now; even mainstream outlets like Fox News and CNN regularly pull tweets for reaction round-up posts – and no one bats an eye. Sometimes these social media messages are collected to celebrate a man’s prediction prowess, other times to shame racists.  And researchers can be just as guilty. Did you post a tweet between July 2010 and October 2011? If you answered “Yes,” you are part of a data set used by researchers, of which there are now at least 244. During the height of the Violentacrez controversy, The Awl ran a tongue-in-cheek piece about how everyone forgets that anything they post on the Internet is public and fair game for journalists (and researchers). Even communication between friends. Annette Markham, a guest professor from Umea University in Sweden, touched on something similar when she called this lack of privacy a “presumption” on Twitter: that because subjects make their information and messages public, they don’t have any rights to privacy. This notion is false. Users have a right to know what is happening with their communication, and they don’t have to participate in surveys, research, or even in media articles if they don’t want to. Sometimes communication between friends really is just communication between friends. Collecting their data could even be a copyright violation. What About The Kids?Valerie Fazel from Arizona State University upped the ante by noting the ethical implications of using the text of minors – the text in this case being YouTube videos – for research purposes. (For those without a moral compass, text from minors is handled with a different code of ethics than text from adults.)Journalists have to understand that even in today’s blogging culture where people are paid to be professionally snarky, children should still be afforded the same protections they get in the traditional media: Talk to the parents and try to get permission for quotes, especially if you are painting the child in a negative light. The line gets crossed more often than you think: Buzzfeed did this recently with election night round-ups of tweets using racial epithets or talking about assassinating the president (a more striking example here). This violation of ethics appears to be accidental: The writers just screencapped the tweets, then pasted them into a document and hit “publish.” Standard protocol. No one bothered to check the ages of the message authors, because who has time for that?On closer inspection of the Twitter users included, though, I determined at least a third were clearly minors. They not only looked young, but also tweeted about the pains of high-school love. The backlash forced some of these users to close their Twitter accounts, with only a few complaining on Twitter. (Others made things worse by reveling in being Internet famous for being racist.) Four requested Buzzfeed remove their tweets, which it did.It is unlikely that these minors’ parents will complain. They probably don’t read Buzzfeed and their teens probably didn’t tell them about the incident. But those parents have every right to be furiuos with Buzzfeed (and their own kids, of course).  What’s The Next Step For Journalistic Ethics?Given the prevalence of these practices, is it even possible for digital journalists to maintain acceptable ethical standards? Even as I’ve been pontificating about other outlets’ ethical standards, I could also be seen as out of line for just linking to tweets written by minors without asking for their permission.Whether or not you approve of the way modern journalists casually appropriate social media posts, it’s clearly past time to re-assess what is and isn’t ethical in the digital era. Collecting tweets may violate copyright and quoting the communication of children may violate common sense, but those potential consequences have yet to stop journalists.  Everyone is making the rules up as they go along, without thinking long term. Before we can try to hold people accountable, we need to have a common understanding of what is and isn’t OK. Poynter held its first symposium on the topic in October – and that’s only the begining of a long and arduous process. Which is good. This is our collective digital future we are talking about, after all. Lead image courtesy of Shutterstock. Tags:#best practices Related Posts A Comprehensive Guide to a Content Audit The rise of the Internet has created a real need to define a code of digital ethics and privacy. I haven’t been able to stop thinking about it since I attended the second annual International Digital Ethics Symposium last week. The event opened my eyes to how bloggers and digital journalists routinely violate established codes of journalistic ethics – as well as the need to update those rules for the digital era while still protecting the people we write about, particularly minors. And it’s not just journalists. For me, the “aha!” moments were the talks about the potential for research to violate rights of privacy and create ethical conflicts. The Eight Domains of Total Force Fitness – Military Families, Lethality, and Resilience

first_imgPsychological Fitness: Keeping Your Mind FitCoping with the stressors and realities of deployment takes a fit mind, not just a fit body. Psychological fitness is about strengthening  performance and resilience. It involves the way one:Thinks and processes informationFeels about themself, others and the environmentAct in response to thoughts and feelingsUnderstanding what makes up psychological fitness and how to develop a healthier mental state can improve military family readiness to confront the challenges of life – both in the military and in civilian life. Learning stress management tips to build coping skills is important part of strengthening  psychological health.Keeping fit can also require getting help to address psychological health concerns. Reach out to line leaders, doctors or chaplains for appropriate care right away if military family members:Can’t shake feeling down or worriedHave thoughts that repeatedly cause anxietyHave sleep problemsHave thoughts about hurting themselfResources are available and they work. Contact the Psychological Health Resource Center 24/7 by calling 1-866-966-1020 for answers to questions.Behavioral Fitness: Coping Skills Build ResilienceBeing behaviorally fit means controlling actions to the benefit of military family health. There are three primary components of this domain, including:Substance misuse prevention (e.g., alcohol in moderation)Risk mitigation (e.g., wearing seat belt, helmet use)Hygiene promotion (e.g., getting enough sleep, hand washing)Rather than engaging in behaviors that may lead down an unhealthy path, navigate through tough times by managing stress and building resilience in positive ways, including through exercise or spiritual activities. Healthy coping skills, like pursuing hobbies and other creative activities, can also lower risk of substance misuse, sleep loss, relationship difficulties and more – all problems that can affect military family well-being and careers.Spiritual FitnessFor many, spirituality may be a relationship with God and certain religious practices. For others, it plays out in non-religious ways, such as through a focus on family or nature. However expressed, spirituality can promote healthy connections with others, healthy lifestyle choices and the strength to endure hard times.Spirituality can:Help cope with multiple deployments, combat stress or injuryEncourage a supportive environment and foster military family cohesionHelp cope with “moral injuries,” which can occur from either awareness of, participating in or witnessing certain acts that may conflict with deeply held moral beliefs and expectationsAs military families and members of civilian communities, spirituality can play a key role in a family’s well-being. Research has linked spirituality to increased optimism, less anxiety and depression, fewer suicides and greater marital stability.Medical and Dental FitnessThe medical and dental fitness domain involves multiple evaluation tools to determine whether service members and their families are medically fit for mission duties and deployment. Military medical fitness specifically establishes that one is:Free of contagious diseases that would likely endanger the health of other personnelFree of medical conditions or physical defects that would require excessive lost duty time for treatments or hospitalization or would likely result in separation from service for medical unfitnessFree of medical conditions or physical defects that would require excessive lost duty time for treatments or hospitalization or would likely result in separation from service for Medically incapable of satisfactorily completing any and all required trainingFree of medical conditions or physical defects that would require excessive lost duty time for treatments or hospitalization or would likely result in separation from service for Medically capable of performing duties without aggravation of existing physical defects or medical conditionsDetermining medical fitness involves evaluation tools, including DNA, immunizations, periodic health assessments, hearing and vision assessments, dental health, and a behavioral health assessment.Sleep is also an important aspect of medical fitness, as it provides improved judgment, reduced obesity, inflammation, and cardiovascular disease, improved resilience, and more rapid recovery from behavioral health problems, injury and illness.Environmental FitnessMilitary families and their service members that are environmentally fit are able to perform or support  duties well in any environment, such as in high altitudes or contaminated areas, and withstand multiple stressors associated with some military missions. Combating the stresses associated with challenging environments involves the following two sets of tools:Biomedical (i.e., nutrition, hydration)Mission-related (i.e., the equipment and clothing available to service members)Adapting to challenging environments involves acclimating to the particular conditions (e.g., cold temperatures, high altitudes, etc.), building up service-member tolerance while exposed to certain environmental stresses and cross-tolerance, when they adapt to environment stresses prior to any exposure. Leaders should ensure that appropriate risk assessments are conducted prior to entering and extreme climate. Additionally, routine risk assessments for all conditions should include an environmental component. Prior to deploying to a different environment, proper equipment for that climate should be issued and leaders should monitor for appropriate utilization. While deployed to difficult environments, service-members can often take steps to assist in adapting, such as use of proper vision and hearing protection, DoD insect repellent system and water purification techniques. Military family members can provide helpful assistance and accountability checks in this domain.Nutritional FitnessNutritional fitness includes providing and consuming all types of foods in quantities, quality, and proportions sufficient to preserve mission performance and to protect against disease or injury.Healthy foods are fuel for the body. This fuel is important to  physical and mental performance, and helps maintain emotional control during field operations. or while family members are deployed. Beyond performance, nutrition also plays an important role in protecting overall health throughout a lifetime. A diet rich in whole grains, lean protein, fruits, vegetables and low-fat dairy products helps lower the risk of certain diseases such as diabetes.Nutritional needs are not universally the same. Daily fluid and food requirements depend on body mass, physical activity and the environment in which the work is performed. While military nutrition efforts have traditionally focused on making sure service members are eating enough, the concern today is about eating too much. Consuming more calories than you need leads to excess weight. Being overweight can impact the success of missions, and the military family’s ability to support missions, as well as raise the risk for heart disease, certain cancers, diabetes and more.Social FitnessSocial fitness involves building and maintaining healthy relationships with others.  It also plays a role in supporting optimal performance and resilience. Social fitness is multi-dimensional and includes not only friends and family, but also recreation, religion and hobbies, as well as bosses and peers. Social activity can help relieve stress, build connections with others, and ease the strain of missing family and friends.Unit cohesion is an important component within social fitness. When service members, their fellow unit members, and their families exhibit healthy social connections and behaviors, the unit thrives and enhances community capacity. The stronger the unit is socially, the more resilient it is. Having a clear understanding of service values, the mission and its meaning is key in supporting healthy social networks and healthy military families.SourcesMAJ Tonja C. In our last Friday Field Notes, we discussed how experts from the operational, scientific and educational communities came together to integrate the components of health and fitness under the title “Total Force Fitness for the 21st Century.” Today we will unpack these components. The concept of Total Force Fitness encompasses eight domains:MINDPsychologicalBehavioralSpiritualSocialBODYPhysicalMedical and DentalNutritionalEnvironmentalTotal Force Fitness involves seamlessly integrating fitness of the mind, body and spirit. Achieving total fitness is a state in which service members, their families and the family’s unit/organization can sustain optimal well-being and performance even, under difficult conditions. Total Force Fitness is critical to Military Family Readiness and Lethality.Physical Fitness: Training Year-Round Boosts ResilienceIn the military community, physical fitness involves service members and their families’ ability to physically handle all aspects of a mission, while at the same time remaining healthy and uninjured to meet the criteria for retention and continued military service. Year-round exercise can help  build and maintain warrior and military family lethality and psychological health and resilience, and some studies have shown that it may improve  mood and attitude. The latest military fitness guidance emphasizes the need to focus on “mission and job task-oriented fitness.” This involves having a well-rounded approach to fitness routines that reflects the various types of conditions that your service member might experience. Physical fitness assessments (link is external) can provide important tools to measure whether your service member’s fitness efforts effectively complement mission duties, but they can also be a great way for military family members to stay connected with their service member and to maintain their own psychological health and resilience.last_img read more

Asian Para Games: Indians denied entry to Athletes village for non-payment of accommodation fee

first_imgNew Delhi, Oct 1 (PTI) The Indian contingent for the Asian Para Games was refused entry to the Athletes Village in Jakarta for a few hours on Monday by the organisers as the necessary payment was not done on time. A top official of the Paralympic Committee of India (PCI) said that the para-athletes were initially denied entry when they arrived at the Games Village as the Sports Ministry had not till then cleared funds to the tune of USD 2.5 lakh. The PCI officials then gave an undertaking that the payment will be done by October 4 and only then the athletes were allowed entry to the Games Village. The Asian Para Games begins at Jakarta on October 6. PCI vice-president Gursharan Singh, who is accompanying the Indian contingent in Jakarta, said, unlike the Asian Games (for able-bodied athletes) held in August, the participating teams for the Para Games will have to make payments for accommodation, competition, registration, among others. “Each country will have to pay for accommodation of its athletes at the Games Village, pay competition and registration fee, etc. So, we have to pay around USD 2.5 lakh for the contingent of around 300. We came here without the funds and we had problems in going into the Games Village,” Gursharan told PTI from Jakarta. “We had to give an undertaking that we will pay the amount by October 4. If we do not make the payment, we may be told to vacate our accommodation at the Games Village,” he added. The PCI top official said 60 para athletes and some officials reached Jakarta on Monday and the remaining contingent will arrive in the next few days.advertisement The issue was later resolved and Sports Secretary Rahul Bhatnagar said that the necessary fund has been transferred (late evening). “We have transferred the funds (on Monday) and the issue is sorted now. The para athletes are now inside the Games Village,” Bhatnagar told PTI. The Indian contingent for the October 6-13 Games comprises 193 athletes and 112 officials. Gursharan said that the sanction of funds by the government was late this time as compared to earlier Para-Games like the 2014 edition in Incheon, Korea. Asked why the contingent left without the sanction of funds, he said, “Every Para-Games, the government pays these funds but this time, it is a bit late. We left India for Indonesia without the sanction of funds hoping that it will be done while we are on way. But it is sorted now.” he said. PTI PDS SSC PDS ATKATKlast_img read more
